Normally, when painting my mandalas, I would start in the middle, the center, and work my way to the periphery.
With this mandala, I tried out a new technique. I started on the outside and worked my way to the center. This was much more difficult for me than to do it the other way.
Once I reached the center, I had the urgent feeling that I needed to find my way towards the outside again. I literally felt closed in. As I made my way out, I started to feel relieved and liberated.
Then I went in again, and out again, making different layers in the painting. And suddenly the feathers appeared like a gentle touch.
Opening up and closing,
breathing in and breathing out,
expanding and contracting,
is the rhythm of life.
