Tan-Ju

is a school
for teenagers
from all over
the world,
who want to go beyond education
and learn about who they are,
how to relate to each other,
how to make friends
and how to create a fulfilling life
with loving relationships.

Tan-Ju symbolises the spirit of the young generation. By living together we learn how to love ourselves, to be friends and to care for our surroundings - this planet. It is a school that teaches the Art of Being Human - an additional education to our school system.

The Course Leader is Chandrika since the start in 1990. Tan-Ju is held twice a year, one month in Summer (mid July until mid August) and ca. 10 days over Christmas. Teenagers from around the world are invited to join this school from the age of 14 until 20. Younger teengers who would like to join need to contact Chandrika before.

3. The Art of Hanging Out
We offer a place where you can spend time together, hang out with Tan-Ju friends and have a great time!

The educational part is based on four main issues:

1. Friendship
Everything we do here at the Humaniversity is geared towards friendship. Living together, hanging out together, doing meditations together. It doesn't matter what you do; you always have friends around you. The goal of Tan-Ju is that all participants become friends with each other. You learn how to take care of yourself and your friends and family, how to express yourself, how to work together as a team and how to be creative together.
Through living together, being sincere and working out your difficulties with each other, you will be able to trust and open your heart. By sharing love with each other you will be able to create everlasting friendships. 'Once a Tan-Ju, always a Tan-Ju', because we are 'friends forever', the Tan-Ju family.

2. Meditation
The process of being a teenager and growing up can bring some difficult or new situations in your life. Feelings of insecurity, fear, isolation and aloneness can appear and you might find yourself not knowing how to deal with them.
Through meditation you get a clearer picture of who you are, what you think, and what you feel. You will be able to experience your emotions and find different ways of how to relate, express, communicate and understand. You learn the Social Meditations, where you are at the same time with yourself and with friends together learning how to become more intimate with each other.

3. Creativity
Another big aspect of the Tan-Ju Program is Creativity. The Humaniversity is situated in such a way that we have the pleasure to include the environment in our program such as the beach and the dunes of Egmond aan Zee.
Besides that we offer a big variety of activities which encourage the Tan-Ju's to be creative. We have painting, working with clay, singing, making music, ball games, swimming, dancing, creating Tan-Ju Boozeria events, etc... And finally a big Theatre Show where everybody becomes a star on stage and performs a dance, a poem, a sketch, a song or anything else that he or she likes to present. Your way of creativity will show who you are.

4. Personal Power
The Training in Personal Power includes Martial Arts (Training in Self-defence), the Street Awareness Program (SAP), Archery (centring bow shooting once a week), Encounter work (e.g. the AUM-Meditation) and little creative presentations on human aspects.
We look at life in a positive way and we encourage you to take a position for what you want in life. That includes being aware of your own values, needs and feelings and that you feel proud of who you are.
You learn to co-ordinate, to balance and center your body and to defend yourself. You are encouraged to take risks and try out things that you would rather avoid looking at in your daily life. You will be able to take an emotional position and to stand up for your own values and the ones of your friends.
Through finding your strength and self-confidence, you find yourself giving and contributing to others. You become able to establish deep, loving relationships. At the end of the program you will be proud to be a TAN-JU and sad to leave this beautiful family.
